Pipe organs are built to last for many generations.\u00a0 The structural aspects of organs are very stable and can last equally as long as the buildings that house them.\u00a0 Thus, they hold their value and appreciate over time.\u00a0 Organs are much more than a collection of organ pipes and incorporate intricate and sometimes delicate mechanisiams (actions)\u00a0in order for the correct pipe to speak at the organist’s touch.\u00a0 Over time, materials use in the organ actions deteriorate and need to be replaced or refurbished in order to continue working properly.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Restoration generally involves restoring deteriorated materials in an organ with the intent of matching the original work.\u00a0 This is generally appropriate for historically important and well-built instruments.<\/p>\n
Rebuilding is a process of renovation which applies new parts and new types of materials to the existing organ to further enhance its future use.\u00a0 Often mechanical or tonal deficiencies that were inherent in the original instrument are greatly improved by the use of modern solid-state and digital techonology and tonal changes simplified through their use.<\/p>\n
The cost of purchasing a new pipe organ in prohibitive for many churches, making restoration or rebuilding an attractive alternative.\u00a0 We follow industry standard guidelines in all our rebuild work and the guidlines of the Organ Historical Society for Conservation and Restoration.<\/p>\n
