There are times when it is desirable to add additional ranks of pipes to existing organs.\u00a0 Proper selection of the new stops is of utmost importance, taking into consideration such factors as pipe scaling, wind pressure, and space available within the organ case or chamber.\u00a0 In some cases, the original builder designed the organ for future additions.\u00a0 This may be apparent by extra stop controls (tabs, knobs, etc.) on the console or “blank” spaces on the windchests for a particular division.\u00a0 Otherwise, the additions must be carefully designed to fit appropriately within the organ without adversely effecting the speech of the existing pipework or sacrificing the ability to tune and service the instrument.<\/p>\n

Many times we find that the ideal time to add new pipework is during the process of rebuilding, moving, or restoring an organ.\u00a0 Such projects generally involve considerable planning on the part of the organ builder and the customer and involve a fund raising process to “make it happen”.\u00a0\u00a0Including\u00a0new additions and other desirable tonal changes as part of\u00a0a rebuild\/renovation project\u00a0is generally\u00a0the easiest and most cost effective approach to expanding the tonal resources of\u00a0an existing\u00a0instrument.<\/p>\n
