Rebuilding & Restoration

Pipe organs are built to last for many generations.  The structural aspects of organs are very stable and can last equally as long as the buildings that house them.  Thus, they hold their value and appreciate over time.  Organs are much more than a collection of organ pipes and incorporate intricate and sometimes delicate mechanisiams (actions) in order for the correct pipe to speak at the organist’s touch.  Over time, materials use in the organ actions deteriorate and need to be replaced or refurbished in order to continue working properly.

Restoration generally involves restoring deteriorated materials in an organ with the intent of matching the original work.  This is generally appropriate for historically important and well-built instruments.

Rebuilding is a process of renovation which applies new parts and new types of materials to the existing organ to further enhance its future use.  Often mechanical or tonal deficiencies that were inherent in the original instrument are greatly improved by the use of modern solid-state and digital techonology and tonal changes simplified through their use.

The cost of purchasing a new pipe organ in prohibitive for many churches, making restoration or rebuilding an attractive alternative.  We follow industry standard guidelines in all our rebuild work and the guidlines of the Organ Historical Society for Conservation and Restoration.

Every project is different and requires special consideration.  We are always happy to consult with you for your special needs.
